The TMC Health Medical Education Program was established in 1963 as Tucson Hospitals Medical Education Program. It was established to conduct graduate and continuing medical education programs at Tucson Medical Center and throughout the greater Tucson community. Initially created as a consortium of physician groups, TMC and other regional hospitals, THMEP offered the first residency training programs in Southern Arizona and remains a major provider of graduate and continuing medical education in the region, with active support of the greater Tucson medical community for over 50 years. Since 1971, with the first graduating class of the newly formed University of Arizona School of Medicine, THMEP has been closely affiliated with the University of Arizona, which is an integral partner in both graduate and undergraduate medical education activities at TMC.The formation of THMEP was based on two firmly held principles: First, that quality medical education is best attained under the guidance of outstanding clinicians in an environment of clinical excellence; and, second, that the highest quality of medical care is attained through an association with a strong educational program. As such, the goal of THMEP has remained unchanged since its inception – to constantly improve both medical education and patient care through a strong commitment to both.As a resident in a THMEP program, and as a student or resident from another institution, but participating in an educational program with us, your responsibility is to acquire the knowledge and develop the skills necessary to provide the very best in evidence-based, compassionate and appropriate care for your current and future patients. Our responsibility is to provide the environment in which this is possible and to encourage and assist your professional growth and education in any way we can.
