Structural Heart Disease Fellowship at Tucson Medical Center/THMEP is a one-year non-ACGME-accredited clinical program designed to prepare an interventional cardiologist with the proficiencies required to perform structural heart procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with balloon and self-expanding valves, transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR), transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR), mitral and tricuspid edge-to-edge repair (mTEER, tTEER) and percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) devices. The physician in training would be expected to participate as the primary operator in SHD/HRPCI interventions, and contribute to the academic and teaching undertakings at the institute. One half day per week will be dedicated to the valve clinic to evaluate new and post-procedure patients. Each week the fellow would be in the cardiac catheterization lab to perform diagnostic/PCI catheterizations to ensure sustained competency in coronary intervention as well complex PCIs and SHD interventions daily. The fellow would participate in daily clinical rounds, weekly heart team meetings, work cohesively with SHD team coordinators, participate in weekly cardiovascular research team meetings and be intimately involved in a plethora of contemporary device implants like LAAC.
