Ernest Algabre, M.D.
Dr. Ernest Algabre was born and raised in the Philippines. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of the Philippines Diliman and completed his medical education at the Cebu Institute of Medicine. He worked as a physician in an underserved community in the Philippines and later trained in internal medicine before moving to Arizona.
Dr. Algabre is excited to join the THMEP family and learn in a collaborative environment with mentors and colleagues while serving the Tucson community. He also looks forward to exploring Tucson’s cuisine and beautiful scenery.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Algabre enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, discovering new restaurants, hiking, working out, and following sports, especially basketball.
Bilaval Javed, M.D.
Dr. Bilaval Javed grew up in Pakistan and completed medical school in Lahore.
Dr. Javed was drawn to THMEP because of its close-knit community, dedicated faculty, rich learning environment, and opportunity to train in a mixed community and academic health setting. He is also excited to remain in Tucson, where he enjoys the beautiful landscape, hiking opportunities, and desert sunsets.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Javed enjoys soccer, running, hiking, and spending time outdoors.

Awais Khan, M.D.
Dr. Awais Khan was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Pakistan at a young age, where he later completed medical school at Sargodha Medical College. He returned to the United States to pursue internal medicine, beginning as a Transitional Year resident at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, before joining TMC Health Medical Education Program.
Dr. Khan is excited to train in Tucson because of the opportunity to care for a diverse patient community while learning in a supportive and collaborative environment. He values building meaningful connections with patients and appreciates Tucson’s welcoming community, rich cultural experiences, and desert landscapes.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Khan enjoys playing soccer, exploring Tucson trails, traveling with his wife, and finding local restaurants with family and friends.
Sachin Mishra, M.D.
Dr. Sachin Mishra was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has lived in Virginia, Louisiana, and Tucson. He moved to Tucson in 2016 after completing his undergraduate degree in environmental health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Mishra chose THMEP because of its close ties to physicians in the community and its small class size. He believes medicine is rooted in service and personal connection, and he is excited to work alongside Tucson’s medical community while caring for patients throughout the city and Southern Arizona.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Mishra enjoys Tucson’s outdoor activities and appreciates the city’s deep historical and cultural influences.


Satanay Omar Mahmoud, M.D.
Dr. Satanay Omar Mahmoud is originally Circassian and was raised and educated in the multicultural community of the United Arab Emirates. Since moving to Tucson, she has come to appreciate the city’s natural beauty and welcoming community.
Dr. Omar Mahmoud is passionate about medicine and advocates for health and healthy lifestyles. Her diverse upbringing has also fostered a strong curiosity for exploring new cultures and traditions.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Omar Mahmoud enjoys staying active through hiking, going to the gym, and trying new approaches to wellness.
Garvita Singhal, M.D.
Dr. Garvita Singhal was born and raised in Rajasthan, India, and graduated from Dr. S.N. Medical College in April 2022. Her passion for medicine, particularly internal medicine, developed during medical school and U.S. clinical rotations. She also spent a year working as a medical officer in pulmonology in India, strengthening her practical clinical skills.
Dr. Singhal aspires to be a physician who connects deeply with patients and helps them achieve their healthcare goals. She is thrilled to join the THMEP family and looks forward to building relationships with colleagues, faculty, and staff while growing personally and professionally in Tucson, whose weather reminds her of home.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Singhal enjoys cooking, baking, oil painting, kitchen gardening, and swimming.
Michael Staren, D.O.
Dr. Michael Staren was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved with his family to Arizona in 2011. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University, followed by a master’s degree in the science of health care delivery. He completed medical training at Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Staren developed a passion for internal medicine during medical school and is excited to train through the THMEP Internal Medicine Residency Program. He looks forward to managing a wide variety of pathophysiologic conditions, practicing medicine in his home state, and learning how to optimize the quality of care provided to patients.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Staren enjoys golf, tennis, Disney, and spending time with friends and loved ones.
